Who Can Bid: Only buyers with at least 10 feedbacks AND a percentile of more than 95% can participate in this auction.

Payment and Shipping Notice: Be sure to read the payment and shipping requirements at the end of the auction description before bidding.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up - do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.

In addition, I do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as “gifts” - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior. Any request to violate these regulations will be reported to eBay.

And, finally, all items will be shipped using the USPS - other carriers are NOT an option, and all items must be fully insured with the winning bid amount declared on the custom’s form. There will be NO exceptions.

General Description: What is being offered for sale is an antique pocket watch made by the International Watch Company (IWC) of Schaffhausen. The serial number is 860236. The watch most likely dates from the early 1900s. See the forty-six (46) photos for details and condition, which is very nice.

The watch is complete, fully functional, and all original.

The diameter of the case is 51 mm. The diameter of the dial is 44-1/2 mm (American 18 size, Swiss 19-3/4).

Note that the watch comes with an antique leather outer watch case, which may or may not be original. The push-piece to open the leather case is missing, thus it is necessary to insert a penknife or small screwdriver at the opening between the covers (above the location for the push piece) and push down on the latch spring.

Casemaker: The case cover is marked IWC – see photos.

Monogram: The case has no monogram or personal inscription. Thus, it can be used for a presentation piece.

Case Condition and Composition: There are no dings or dents or significant scratches – see photos. The case hinges for the back covers are not damaged and they are in good working order. The front bezel snaps on tightly.

The composition of the case is .800 silver – as marked. Interestingly, the bow has 5 hallmarks – including IWC and .800.

Dial/Hands: The enamel dial is in perfect condition – there are no cracks, chips, or hairlines. The gilt hands are unquestionably original.

The dial on this watch has the most unusual method of attachment. There are spring-loaded wires in the pillar plate to secure and center the dial – see photos of the pillar plate that show the springs on the side hole for the dial feet.

Operational: I don’t know when the watch was last cleaned and lubricated, but as is, it is ticking nicely and the balance has a good strong motion in all positions and is true in both the round and the flat. The watch is likely keeping time to within a minute per day, plus the regulator has room for adjustment. Note: The watch was wound and timed (dial up) for 7 hours and gained 8 seconds.

Winding/Setting: The winding and setting mechanisms are nice and smooth.

Highlights: Features of the watch include handsome silver open-face case with engine-turned decoration, perfect enamel dial (with unusual feet attachment), original gilt hands, 16 (or 17) jewels, lever escapement, steel escape wheel, micrometer regulator, Breguet overcoil, floating balance spring stud, and a bi-metallic split-rim temperature compensation balance with solid gold weights. .

NOTICE: I will be listing several dozen fusee/verge and fusee/lever watches over the next several weeks. Come back to greatbuys4sale and take a peek.

Guarantee: The IWC pocket watch can be returned for a refund of the bid amount if the seller is notified within 3 days of receipt (as determined by Delivery Confirmation) and the watch is in the condition shown in the photos.

Payment and Shipment: All payments must be received by me within 10 days after the auction has ended. However, since I have a “no question return policy” and if the buyer is unable to make payment, he can simply cancel the auction before the item is shipped without any consequences.

IMPORTANT Shipping Details: US and non-US buyers pay for USPS priority mail, first class, or flat rate depending on the weight and size of the package and the value of the item (as indicated in the eBay “Shipping & Payments” section of the listing). Media mail is also an option (in the US only) for books, piano rolls, and musical recordings. For US buyers and for items over $1000, registered mail is recommended – but will likely require several additional days for delivery by the USPS.

In ALL cases, the carrier must be the United States Postal Service (USPS). Fedex, DHL, and UPS are not acceptable.

There are NO handling or packaging fees for shipping. Delivery confirmation and insurance (if required) will be paid for by the seller.

Important Notice: If an item is purchased by a US or a non-US buyer and it can NOT be insured for its full value with the USPS, including the expensive Global Xpress Guaranteed (GXG), than the auction will be cancelled or the buyer can arrange for on-site pick-up or provide an address in the United States. Repeat: Expensive items will NOT be shipped unless they can be fully insured with the USPS.

And, for the third time, the buyer will be responsible for any customs taxes that may be imposed on the “bid amount” of the item.

Second Chance Offer: I do not offer under bidders a Second Chance Offer unless it is through eBay and by geatbuys4sale. If you receive such a notice, it is fraudulent and not from me. Be careful. There have been a number of attempts to resell my items. Only buy “through” eBay and only with the seller “greatbuys4sale”. Note: I will on occasion, re-list an item with “Buy Now.” But that is within eBay and only with greatbuys4sale.
