Antique Gold Ligne Droit Repeater Pocket Watch

Solid 18 karat gold. 32 jewel. Beautifully engraved.

Here is the Scoop!

CORRECTION ON FEBRUARY 04 2011. Please reread the description!

Up for auction is one of the best pocket watches I've owned!

The pocket watch is made by Ligne Droit (CORRECTION FEBRUARY 4 2011: LIGNE DROIT IS NOT THE MAKER'S NAME, it probably means "straight line lever escapement type movement" in french, thank you for pointing this out to us), circa late 1800's. We do not know who made this watch, we can not find a name. We don't feel comfortable doing deeper into the movement to try and look for any reference to one.

Cased in solid yellow 18 karat gold it's beautifully engraved with a hunting scene. On the front is a man and his dog, the reverse is engraved with what looks like the same dog and a small town in the corner.

I'm not sure what type of repeater it is, it has two hammers so it could be a minute repeater.

The pocket watch is 122.5 grams

It's (roughly) 55mm in diameter without including the crown

It's (roughly) 14mm in width.

It's a lever set, pulling the lever gently allows you to move the hands.

The inside dust cover is beautifully engraved, it looks like it's in french. It reads:

No. 3081

Repetition

Heures & Quartz

Echappement A Ancre (Escapement)

32 rubis

(left) Levees Visibles

(right) Spiral Breguet

Balancier Compense (Compensated balance)

Ligne Droite

It's hard to capture how beautiful the engraving is, how detailed it is. The pictures really don't do it justice.

The watch is in great shape cosmetically. There's one small dent on the side (pictured, but hardly noticeable. It can be easily repaired by a goldsmith), and on the inner dust cover there's a small ding.

The dial is in beautiful shape, it's crisp and white. The crystal feels like a sapphire crystal and is also in excellent shape.

The watch does need work mechanically. Right now it's not running and I don't know how the functions are. But I'm 90% sure I know whats wrong. The main spring seems to have either come unhooked or it broke, the watch simply isn't winding anymore.

Even so, it's still a rare and stunning example of watchmaking. Don't miss out on an opportunity to own an amazing piece!
